Apps to Help With Communication

Voice communication systems and devices for non-verbal autistic children can get fairly expensive and serve only a single purpose in allowing that individual to communicate.  Lately though, apps have been manufactured to serve these purposes on iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.  This allows for easy to use, interactive communication systems at the palm of your hand, easily used on the go.  Not only are these apps being used for communication, but some also allow for mobile daily schedules and routines for different tasks to be at the hands of the individual who needs them, allowing for instant accessibility anywhere they need.  This article lays out some of the main programs that are currently out there:

The main one I have seen and looked into is Proloque2Go which is an augmentative and alternative communication solution for autistic individuals which brings natural sounding text-to-speech voices, up-to-date symbols, powerful automatic conjugations, and a default vocabulary of over 7000 items to their hands.  This is extremely useful as it is a new up to date interactive system for individuals becoming accustomed to interactive software in this new age.  This program also allows for sentences to be created which is fun to see and allows for these individuals who have been hindered for so long due to their inability to communicate, to have their own voice and communicate more specifically their needs/wants.

I have not checked on the availability of these programs on other smart phones, but I would assume if they are not available yet, they soon will be.
